Best Genie Plus Strategies

We understand Genie+ can be a huge undertaking but it really is quite simple once you figure it out. Please read our other posts about Genie+ to make sure you know the basics before diving into strategies with us.

Our best tips before we get started:

1. Get the most bang for your buck. Genie+ value doubles when you have a park hopper because you can use all the available Genie+ rides in both parks every day instead of just one park. Please consider upgrading your pass to a hopper if you’d like to get the most out of your day.

2. If you know you’d like to do Genie+ every day, purchase it ahead of time with your tickets when you book through our link at Get Away Today. The cost of Genie+ varies every day and can go up to $35 per person. If you purchase ahead of time, it’s a guaranteed $30 a day per person. If you are going at a busy time we absolutely suggest this option as it will most likely cost more in the park.

Strategies to get the most of your day:

1. Don’t start booking any rides until about an hour or so into your park day. The first hour of the day your Lightning Lane will be just as fast as standby and you will essentially waste your LL (Lightning Lane) for that ride that day. Use standby until wait times are starting to creep up.

2. Remember the rules. You can ride each ride once a day and can book a new LL right after you scan into your last LL OR two hours after you scheduled your last ride. Genearally speaking, your plan through the morning should be to avoid that two hour window. Pick rides with the most immediate return time, go scan in, and immediately book another one.

3. Prioritize rides that book out fastest. We try to use our LL for these rides first as they can get booked out to later times fairly quickly and you’ll be stuck waiting the two hour window or you may loose your chance to ride altogether if they run out of LL for the day. Note: The only exception to this is if there is a ride that has a Lightning Lane booking out into the late morning/early afternoon hours really quickly (Indiana Jones, Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway, Space Mountain, Guardians of the Galaxy, Toy Story Midway Mania are typically the ones that you might see book fast) you could consider grabbing it very early on in your day and taking the 2 hour booking penalty that comes with it. The tough part about doing that is in the meantime, you have to rely on only Standby lines for the 2 hours between booking that headliner and your next Lightning Lane…but it can be a valid strategy, particularly if you have a character breakfast in the morning hours or something similar that is making your use of your Lightning Lane bookings less important during that penalty window.

Most Likely to Book Up:

Highest Priority: Indiana Jones, Haunted Mansion Holiday, Guardians of the Galaxy, Midway Mania, Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway, Space Mountain

Secondary Priority: Smuggler’s Run, Soarin’, Grizzly River (on hot days), Splash Mountain (closed for retheming until later in 2024) Matterhorn, Roger Rabbit, Webslingers, Haunted Mansion (closed until at least August 2024)

Everything else you can pretty much get an immediate or within an hour return time throughout the day.

4. Now you have enjoyed a lot of your LL selections, you are ready for a break. If you plan to take an afternoon break or a long lunch, or if you schedule any LL more than 2 hours out, set yourself an alarm on your phone to remind yourself to schedule your next window. This is a time you can snag one of your high priority rides that maybe pushed out to a later time faster than you thought for when you will be back in the park. While you are taking a break you should be able to schedule a couple of rides to get them lined up for your evening in the park.
