Guardians of the Galaxy Halloween Overlay: “Monster's After Dark”

If you're planning your first trip to Disneyland during the Halloween season and you're a fan of the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise, you're in for a treat! The theme park offers not one but two thrilling rides featuring your favorite intergalactic misfits: Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission Breakout and Guardians of the Galaxy: Monster's After Dark. Both rides promise an action-packed adventure, but there are some important differences between the two that you should know before deciding to board.

Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission Breakout: Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission Breakout is the primary version of the ride and is available during regular park hours. This thrilling attraction is based on the popular Tower of Terror, which was reimagined to incorporate the Guardians of the Galaxy storyline.

Ride Experience: Join Rocket Raccoon as he enlists your help to free the rest of the Guardians from the Collector's fortress. The ride consists of a drop tower experience, where you'll be plunged up and down, propelled by Rocket's quirky and fast-paced commentary. The drops are sudden and exhilarating, making it a thrilling experience for adrenaline junkies.

Height Restrictions: Guests must be at least 40 inches tall to ride Mission Breakout, so it's not suitable for young children who do not meet the height requirement.

Scary Scenes and Flashing Lights: Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission Breakout is designed to be intense and action-packed. While it doesn't include horror elements, some scenes might be intimidating for younger or more sensitive riders. Additionally, there are flashing lights during the ride, which might be a consideration for those with light sensitivity.

Guardians of the Galaxy: Monster's After Dark: Guardians of the Galaxy: Monster's After Dark is a limited-time version of the ride that's offered during the later afternoon/evening hours at California Adventure during the Halloween season. The ride typically closes around 2PM and then reopens as “Monsters After Dark” at 3PM each day. It is also available during Oogie Boogie Bash.

Ride Experience: In this Halloween-themed version, the storyline follows Rocket Raccoon on a mission to save Baby Groot from the Collector's fortress after he was left behind during the previous ride experience. The ride mechanics are the same as Mission Breakout, but the narrative and atmosphere change to provide a chilling and thrilling experience.

Who Should Consider Riding Each Version:

  • Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission Breakout: This version is suitable for guests who enjoy adrenaline-pumping rides, don't mind sudden drops, and are fans of the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise. It's not recommended for young children or those who dislike intense rides.

  • Guardians of the Galaxy: Monster's After Dark: Guests who relish a mix of spooky thrills and the excitement of the original Mission Breakout should consider riding this version. However, it's not ideal for those who are easily scared or uncomfortable with Halloween-themed experiences.

Whether you choose to join the Guardians of the Galaxy on their daring escape during regular park hours with Mission Breakout or venture into a spooky adventure during Monster's After Dark in the afternoons/evenings, Disneyland offers something special for all Guardians fans. Remember to consider the height restrictions, scary scenes, and flashing lights as you make your decision. Whichever version you choose, you're sure to have an unforgettable time at the Disneyland Resort!
